Custom Shelving Design

Check out this custom shelving design I am currently working on. The client had initially thought of building bookcases but once I started drawing it, the enclosed sides looked too heavy to be beneath the open staircase. These floating shelves will keep the space feeling open and bright. The bench below the window is deep enough for seating but spreads across the entire wall to provide hidden internal storage. The different spacing between the shelves will offer adequate space to display all of the client's accessories.

Each floating shelf will consist of an inner support frame and an outer shelf that slides into place over the frame. The shelf pieces will be 3/4" solid hardwood, mitered at the two front corners. Total shelf thickness is 2-1/2". Shelf depth is 12". Once the floating shelves are installed, we will secure them to the frame with small finishing nails.

With the added lighting above the window and right set of shelving, this feature will be a show stopper!
