Farmhouse Master Bedroom Retreat

This Farmhouse bedroom came out so soothing and relaxing, I cannot wait to see it done! Below I have outlined my thought process for making each selection and provided their links.

I started with this fabulous metal bed frame. The Farmhouse style is usually a combination of rough distressed woods and rustic (or industrial) elements. This metal bed frame will be the center of this design and is so easy to mix with the other furniture in the room.

Most master bedrooms are usually missing the main element in the room - a RUG. This is the simplest item to add to create that soft relaxing space. I knew my color scheme would be grey, white, and beige so I wanted the rug to make a statement. I love stripes and this one alternates between large and smaller multiple stripes. Anything too repetitive would become too modern in this space.

Once the rug is chosen, I know I will need coordinating bedding. My go-to bedding is always the main white pieces and then I add from there. I am not a fan of duvet covers. Yes, the down comforter inside is nice and fluffy but have you ever slept with one? I don't care if it comes with those special ties in the corner, the inside comforter ALWAYS moves and slides around inside. This beautiful white comforter has that same fluffy look and comes with two matching pillow cases.

Next is the coverlet (folded quilt at bottom of bed). With my farmhouse theme in mind, I found this great grey buffalo plaid quilt and matching shams. This brings in my grey color (pulling from the rug) and a fabulous pattern to break up the white bedding.

Here you can see how I plan to layout the bedding. Since we have a lot of grey happening in the room, I think simple white sheets with suffice on this bed, plus the addition of some fun throw pillows!
Don't be afraid to mix patterns! We already have the stripes on the floor rug so why not add some on the bed? These will be broken up on the bed with the white pillows so as long as the colors coordinate with the grey buffalo plaid, it won't be too overwhelming.

And don't forget to throw in some texture on the bed! Not only does this fabulous pillows come in a great oblong size to ground the staggered pillows, but this fun pattern has that fluffy texture and each corner has a tassel. I LOVE TASSELS!

Since we have that bold black metal frame and the grey rug and bedding, I want to keep the soft master bedroom oasis feeling by using white nightstand. A good tip when mixing furniture is mix open with closed pieces. Here we have that metal bed frame with all the open slats so I want my nightstands to be more closed (box-shaped).

These great black based table lamps have that farmhouse vibe I needed but I made sure to find some with a nice white shade to keep it light and airy. I though about using black adjustable lamps but they looked too cold and masculine. I think these will be a great fit.

If you have the room, every bedroom needs a bench at the foot of the bed. Not only does it give you a seating area (to put shoes on or just to relax) but it also provides an ending (or stopping point) to the bed frame. Keeping in line with my open-and-closed idea of the nightstands, I needed the bench to be closed. And bonus, this one has these super cute baskets that add an element of TEXTURE.

I also think every master bedroom needs a floor length mirror. Not only does it provide a visual for you to check out your outfit, but it makes the space feel larger and brings in some extra glam. This one has a beautiful rustic wood frame and is a great size at 66" x 32". It's a great piece to fill up a large empty wall without taking up walking space.

This is one of my favorite curtain rods. It brings in just enough rustic flair without being too over the top. And it simply perfect for any Farmhouse room.

The curtains were actually very difficult to pick for this room. The main things I wanted was a great grey color with a linen texture. Everything I found was either too grey or too soft. This nice heather gray curtain from World Market is perfect. It's kind of a greige color and is actually cotton but up close has a tweed look. Will match perfectly with the other gray tones in the room without being too matchy-matchy.

And finally I added a touch of romance to this couples retreat. These will be perfect placed over each nightstand. I found these on Etsy and they come in lots of different sizes and colors!

This room really came together nicely for me and the client was very happy with the selections I made for her. Hopefully someone out there can use these ideas in their own room!

I would love to help create the perfect master bedroom retreat that suits your own style!
