Gray Undertones

So you are ready to paint your room and you think, "I just want a nice gray". Then, you get it on the wall and it's blue! Or it's green! Here is my handy guide to Sherwin Williams gray undertones.

Undertones are the result of blending more than one color together. The dominant color is the main one you see. Here it's gray. But once applied to walls, the undertone (blue, green or beige) is also seen. This can also change depending on the time of day and the amount of natural lighting there is. Some paints can even look different on different walls.

These are some of my go-to paint colors depending on the colors going in the rest of the room. If I am painting before furniture and accessories are chosen, I usually stick with a beige undertone. But if I know I plan on using blue accents in the room, I pick from my blue undertones.

I always recommend trying samples before painting an entire wall or entire room. And make sure to paint a small sample on EVERY wall, because like I mentioned before, paint tends to look different at different times of the day and from different directions. Make sure to look at the paint in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

I hope this undertone guide can provide some assistance when debating which direction to go in. You can always contact me for a virtual design call to help you make that decision too!
