Rustic Bathroom Design

This client hired me to refurnish her new home. Upon living in her new home she decided she needed to renovate her master bathroom. I was very excited to get started on her design. She has a very fun style of rustic charm with a bit of modern glam.

I started my design as usual at the tile store. Her only request was for slate tile on the floor. Keeping with her modern side, I found this great slate-looking tile in a 12" x 24" size. Stacking it will create that modern twist to the overall rustic design.

Since we plan to use such a dark colored tile on the floor (and the back wall as an accent) I knew I needed to keep the rest of the tile brighter. I found this great 3" x 12" white subway tile from Speartek that would fit in perfect with the design because the edges have a slightly rustic wear to them. When grouted in a light grey color, it will stand out even more.

For the shower floor, I could have simply gone with the coordinating mosaic to the slate tile but this pebble mosaic from Bella Casa caught my eye. It has all of the colors going on in the other tiles and would bring in that rustic element to the space even more. I like that it is not beveled or rounded and has a flat top. While standing in the shower it wont hurt your feet but you still might feel like your at the spa.

After choosing the tile, it was on to the next biggest element in the room: the vanity. This could be a challenging piece to add to any bathroom. Not only do you want the style to be amazing, but you want it to be functional. There are so many fabulous freestanding vanities out here but they don't offer any storage. While beautiful, I prefer having the storage element in my bathroom.

And then I found the perfect vanity. With it's distressed Honey Alder wood finish and rustic iron hardware, it has that great rustic look I wanted combined with tons of storage. It even has a cool matching wood back splash that will be so beautiful placed on top of the quartz countertop.

I don't have it shown in the breakdown above, but the plan is to use this beautiful quartz from Pompeii color Concreto. We thought about real concrete but did not want to worry about the hassle of real concrete (the chipping or staining element). This quartz is the perfect color and pattern and comes in a honed finish so it will even feel like real concrete.

Then we needed some fabulous rustic mirrors. I wanted something metal to add to the mix of materials and along came this beautiful Uttermost metal framed mirror I found at Lamps Plus. Instead of just a simple black metal frame, this one has so much detail to it. It will be so beautiful with some classy lights above them.

Lighting is always a crucial element in a bathroom but in this one in particular we need something with a little sparkle. This brushed nickel Kichler sconce I found on Build.com will be so pretty. The nickel finish and glass shade with bring in that sparkle I needed mixed with the Edison bulb to keep the rustic industrial thing going on.

For the accessories, the Delta Annalisa collection will blend perfectly. The black matte finish adds to the rustic feel and the sleek lines brings in the modern element. I love mixing styles!

I wanted to brighten the space and give it some sparkle, so for plumbing fixtures I knew I wanted to go with brushed nickel finish. While I love chrome, in this particular room, the brushed nickel will flow better.

Delta is by far my favorite plumbing line (also liked by most plumbers). And this Ashlyn collection is just gorgeous. the square details are softened by the rounded edges and handles have long straight lines.

If I have to have a favorite toilet it would be the Kohler Highline comfort height elongated toilet. While Kohler is a great brand and I'm sure it's a great toilet, I like it for it's looks of course. It's actually a good looking toilet that is not too expensive. Besides the bowl itself, the tank has a nice slender shape and comes with a classy looking handle.

Another Kohler favorite of mine is the Caxton rectangle sink. It is a great size and shape with rounded corners for easy cleaning. The sharp rectangle sinks can be difficult to clean the inside corners. (something most people don't think about when choosing this product).

This was a fun style of bathroom to put together. I cannot wait to see how it comes out. I will make another blog upon completion showing all of the before and after photos.
